Indian Passport Photo Size for VFS Global — Complete Guide

Print vs Digital — You Need Both
A common point of confusion: the VFS Global Indian passport application requires two different photo formats.
- Digital photo (630×810 px) — uploaded online during your Passport Seva application
- Printed photos (35×45 mm) — physical photos included in your mailed document package
Both must show the same recent photo and meet the same compliance rules.
Indian passport photos use the 35×45 mm size, which is different from the US passport 2×2 inch (51×51 mm) size. Don't use a US passport photo for your Indian passport — the proportions are wrong and it will be rejected. Note: the OCI card photo IS square (51×51 mm), so check which document you're applying for.
ICAO 2025 Compliance Checklist
- Face centered and looking straight at the camera
- Neutral expression — no smiling, mouth closed
- Both eyes open and clearly visible
- No glasses of any kind
- No hat or head covering (except for religious reasons, worn daily)
- Plain white background, evenly lit, no shadows
- Head not tilted — straight and level
- Sharp focus, good lighting, natural skin tones
- No filters or digital alterations

Printing Your 35×45 mm Photos
Once you have your print sheet, take it to any photo lab — Walgreens, CVS, Costco — and print it as a standard 4×6 inch photo at 300 DPI. The sheet has multiple copies laid out with cut guides. Cut along the lines and you'll have correctly sized 35×45 mm photos.
